Analysis of Variation of Length of Stay According to Comorbidities in Cancer Inpatient
Kim Sung-Soo

Abstract
Objectives: The present study was conducted to confirm the distribution of comorbidity among hospitalized cancer inpatients in Korea to analyze the variations in the length of stay (LOS).

Methods: The subjects were patients with the principal diagnosis of malignant neoplasm (C00-C97) from the data of the Korean National Hospital Discharge In-depth Injury Survey (2006-2016) designed according to the complex sample survey. The dependent vari?able is the length of stay and the independent variables are comorbidities, demographic characteristics such as gender and age. The study was per?formed regression analysis, chi-square, t-test to find out what sort of influence such comorbidities have on the length of stay.

Results: Among the hospi?talized cancer patients, there were 74.7% of patients with comorbidity and the average length of stay was 12.1 days. The distribution of hospitalized can?cer patients and their average length of stay displayed statistically significant differences according to the general characteristics. Furthermore, the major comorbidity that made significant impact on the length of stay were S00-T98, J00-J99, K00-K93, L00-L99 and F00-F99.

Conclusions: Our results suggest that we need to consider major comorbidity to reduce hospital length of stay in cancer inpatient.
